Capellano created the originals in sandstone, they were later recreated in marble during the Extension of the Capitol Project of 1959-1960. They are likely made of Barre, Vermont Marble as they were carved by the Vermont Marble Company.

Fame & Peace Crowning George Washington is a bas-relief created by Antonio Capellano in 1827 for the U.S. Capitol. The original sandstone figure depicts two angels, Fame and Peace, placing laurel crowns on a bust of George Washington. The original was removed for preservation and replaced by a marble copy in 1960.
