experience has shown that ticket demand
indoors at least doubles over first class outdoor
conditions; thus a Superdome $1 Friday night
ep doubleheader might attract audiences of
20,000 to 30,000,
I first expressed these views several years ago.
Many high school coaches and principals
immediately embraced a suggested prep
program, particularly because of dramatic
jury reductions on the © grass
face, and they have since offered man:
constructive suggestions.
But from the mother of a high school student
came perhaps the best idea of all. “Why not
she said, “hire a local rock and roll group and
throw open the playing field after the second
game for the biggest teen-age dance blast in
America each Friday night?
Why not indeed? This combination of sports
and entertainment would seem to be box-office
lynamite, as indieated by enthusiastic opinion
samplings among teen-agers and indentical
reactions from coaches, principals, youth-
counselors, and parents. Crowds for Friday
night football-dance attractions could reach
very sizeable proportions

basketball. Eight excellent courts can be laid

benefit the state by over $150 million in the
first year and will mark the beginning of an era

“Approval of the constitutional amendment
making the dome stadium a reality was the
greatest thing that's happened to the State sin:
the Louisiana Purchase.’
“Having seen the Astrodome in Houston makes
me all the more certain we're right in building
such a facility in New Orleans, which has sports
tradition, population and economic growth, and
which can outdraw Houston any day."
“So, how can we afford not to build a showplace
which will be enjoyed by our children, grand-
children and great grandchildren?”’
“The domed stadium will be two generations
beyond anything in existence in the world
today.
