What the Six Differences Mean

‘The Astrodome was the world’s first covered
baseball-football stadium. The 80,000 capacity
Superdome will be the world’s first
auditorium-stadium, suitable for many and
varied forms of entertainment and public
events,

As an illustration of Superdome usability, a
study by the world-famed Stanford Research
Institute lists “a reasonable annual schedule”
of 224 profit-making event days for
Louisiana’s multipurpose Superdome
without any dependence on a major
league baseball franchise. This compares
to approximately 110 dates at the Astrodome,
including baseball.

SEATING COMPARISON: Superdome seating is
nearer the action. Example, all Superdome upper
deck seats are 65 feet closer to the field than seats
at comparable heights in the Astrodome.

SPECIAL NOTE: At a 75 foot level Superdome seats
are exactly 100 feet closer tothe field than at Tulane
Stadium.

“With Theatrical Lighting

‘The Superdome is being designed “from the
nside out” for the best possible seating
arrangement. The stadium will be equipped with
upholstered theatre type seats to insure
maximum comfort for spectators. Escalators
will carry spectators to their seats in the stands.
And “skyboxes” will give some 2,000 fans a
fabulous view of the action on the field.
