‘The Houston Astrodome is a superb 45,000 to
50,000 seat, air conditioned baseball-football
stadium. Louisiana's Superdome is an 80,000
capacity stadium, but it is considerably more
than a “stadium”. It is also a downtown
parking complex, it is an arena comparable to
‘New York's Madison Square Garden, it is one
of the nation’s finest convention-trade show
centers. The Superdome is a giant screen
television theatre, and it is the world’s largest
auditorium.

Difference Number One

Louisiana's Superdome will be very much a
part of downtown New Orleans. There will be
substantial non-event, mid-week, daytime
garage parking revenues, as well as income
from stadium event parking.

‘Three-level garages and pedestrian plazas are
integrated into the Superdome’s design.

‘This spectacular addition to the New Orleans
skyline effectively removes 55 acres of
‘community eyesore from the heart of
Louisiana’s largest metropolitan area.
Houston's Astrodome is suburban in

location. There is no nearby central business
district to supply yearlong, daytime parking
income.

Difference Number Two

Houston's Astrodome was not intended as an
arena or entertainment center, witness its
original natural grass field. Consequently, a
basketball court or individual entertainer is
usually 150 feet, or more, from the nearest
spectator . . . “out in center field”

At Louisiana’s Superdome a revolutionary
system of movable grandstands creates a
Madison Square Garden arena arrangement
usable 865 days a year, with up-close seating
on all four sides, ideal for basketball, ice shows,
conventions, entertainment events.
